Is the Word ‘Seamstress’ Outdated??? | Sick of Stereotypes?

June 11, 2017 by Jennifer Moore Leave a Comment

The term “seamstress” – do you feel it’s outdated? From dressmaking, alterations, hand embroidery, quilting, knitting, crocheting – there are so many different types of sewing.

When I talk to people unfamiliar with sewing – they don’t seem to understand the differences and lump all of those categories into just one – “sewing.”

Lots of inaccurate stereotypes about people who sew, what we do, why we do it, and that all of us want to open up an Etsy shop.

Is there a better way we could characterize ourselves and various specialties?

Let’s start a conversation here!

Announcement – next week’s show on June 18, 2017 will most likely be pre-taped due to a family obligation but I’ll return on June 25 again live!

NOTE: I’ve also figured out I can copy & paste comments from the actual live stream so if you’re watching the replay – you can see what everyone said during the show. The format is a little funky, but it works!
