SELLING IT! Handmade Items on Etsy? Craft Fairs? Is it Worth It? $$$

July 2, 2017 by Jennifer Moore Leave a Comment

Interested in selling handmade items online – via an Etsy shop, Facebook page, or in person at craft fairs? It’s something many of us who sew have considered, but is it really worth it? Join the conversation and weigh in with your opinion.

Most of the people I know within the sewing industry don’t actually sell sewn goods or handmade items.

Instead, they design patterns/fabrics, write books, teach, blog/vlog, and represent brands as a spokesperson.

While not impossible, it is definitely challenging to make an acceptable profit from making and sewing, then selling finished products.

I personally do not sell what I make at this time, and never have on a serious basis.

If you have, I’d love to hear more about your experience and what it takes to succeed.

In other news, I’m starting sort of a #destash account on Instagram @sewingreportshop

Soon, I’ll be starting to post fabric, sewing patterns, and other goodies. That will also be the place where I may occasionally try to sell sewn items and other miscellaneous things as part of that social experiment I was talking about toward the end of last week’s live show.
