Making a handmade quilt is a form of sewing that requires patience, precision, and lots of time.
Being both a modern quilter and a YouTube creator, I was inspired to make a quilt that incorporated both the YouTube Play Button and my Sewing Report channel logo.
Using my computer, I blew up the logos and printed them each out on 6 sheets of paper and glued them together.
For the YouTube play button logo, I used a quilt piecing technique called foundation paper piecing. With the Sewing Report logo, I used another technique – raw edge applique with Heat n Bond.
Free motion quilting was utilized to quilt the front/backing, then I hand bound the binding around the edges. The logos were hand sewn onto the quilt using a ladder stitch.
I did find that batik fabric is more challenging to quilt, so I used microtex needles and silicone spray – which I sprayed on both the fabric AND directly onto the spool of thread – which I switched to a finer polyester. This was definitely more effective.
Now this modern quilt hangs in my sewing room to enjoy and pay tribute to my love of both sewing and YouTube.
